Fondly known as the strongman of our club, Rtn. Umesh Gatty now takes the mantle of leadership as the President of our club for the Rotary year 2026–27.
Professionally, Rtn. Umesh serves as a Controller in MESCOM, Mangalore Zone. He holds degrees in B.Com. and LL.B., Diploma in Personal Management & Industrial Relations, reflecting his strong academic foundation alongside an illustrious professional career.
Leadership has always been an integral part of his personality. As a student, he served as the Students' Union President of St. Aloysius Evening College, where he displayed exceptional leadership skills. His passion for service led him to the Leo Club of Mangaladevi, where, as President, he guided the club to win the prestigious Best Leo Club Award. He is also the Vice President of SDM law College Alumni Association. Past Vice President of KPTCL Employees Union, Past President of Cascia High School Old Students Association, Chief Patron of Gatty Samaja ®.
An accomplished sportsman, Rtn. Umesh excelled in football during his college days. He was the founder Captain of both St. Aloysius Evening College and SDM Law College football teams and proudly represented Mangalore University in football. He also represented KPTCL Football team in All India Electricity Football Tournament. His passion for sports continues even today through his active association with various sports bodies. He is the Joint Secretary of Mangalore Roller Skating Club, Joint Secretary of Dakshina Kannada Body Building Association, President of Dakshina Kannada Powerlifting Association, Executive Committee member of Karnataka Powerlifting Association. He also serves as the President of renowned Balanjaneya Gymnasium, Mangalore. As the manager of KPTCL Body Building and Powerlifting Teams, he successfully ensured award winning performances by the teams in the All India Tournaments.
He has been a National Referee for the Indian Body Building Federation and the Powerlifting Federation of India since 1995–96.
His Rotary journey started in the year 2021 when he became a member of Rotary Club of Mangalore Downtown. Assumed responsibility of various avenues of service in the club also became the Secretary for the year 2023-24 and Vice-President for the year 2025-26.
Behind every successful Rotarian stands a supportive family. Rtn. Umesh is ably supported by his wife, Rtn. Dr. Savitha Gatty, Medical Officer, PHC Kotekar, herself an active Rotarian, and together they are blessed with a son, Nikhil Gatty.
